CHC50121 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia.
Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators.
Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.
To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.
Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or Australian equivalent is mandatory.

*CHCECE042 and CHCECE048 require students to perform the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during a period of at least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia.
Vocational placement provides students with the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge in real scenarios. It is a requirement of this qualification that students undertake a minimum of 280 hours of work-based training (unpaid vocational placement) as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.
The College organises student placement. Students will be given a vocational placement logbook and diary, which will need to be completed during their placement hours. Students must be willing to undertake placement in an early childcare facility and within a simulated childcare environment during the program. Should students be required to travel interstate for placement, the College will cover the cost of all interstate travel and accommodation during the placement, however students will be required to organise their own local travel to and from these facilities.
Students will be notified of their placement details prior to commencing vocational placement. Students are required to organise their own travel to and from these facilities and may be required to undertake placement anywhere within Australia.

As per placement facilities students are expected to have immunisations records such as COVID Vaccine certificate, Influenza vaccination. There might be additional immunisation records required depending on the placement facilities policies.

Students MUST have the following IT equipment prior to enrolling with Australian Vocational Training Academy and will require a suitable study space for self-study, assessment activities, or to participate in online classes.

Please Note: Completion of an AVTA qualification does not guarantee an employment outcome.
Once the units of competency required in the training package for this qualification have been successfully completed, the student will be issued with CHC50121 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care and an academic transcript of all completed units within 30 calendar days. Students who successfully complete individual units of competency within the qualification, but not the qualification in its entirety will be eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment. This document contains a record of all completed units and will be available to students by the end of their course.
