CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 40 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or Australian equivalent is mandatory.
Completion of: CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)

Completion of: CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.
A minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is required.

*This unit must be completed before commencing placement.
Students must be willing to undertake vocational placement. Vocational placement provides students with the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge in real scenarios. It is a requirement of this qualification that students undertake a minimum of 40 hours of unpaid vocational placement[1].
The college organises students’ vocational placement locations. However, students can select vocational placement locations themselves. The college will assess the suitability of placement locations. Students will also be given a vocational placement booklet, which will need to be completed during their placement hours. All students must be willing to undertake placement in a disability care facility.
Students will be required to arrange, at their own expense, transportation to and from their placement facility. Should students be required to travel interstate for placement, the college will cover the cost of all interstate travel and accommodation during the placement; however, students will be required to organise their own local travel to and from these facilities.
Prior to attending vocational placement, students must achieve satisfactory results. Students will also be required to successfully complete HLTAID011– Provide first aid. This unit is an elective within this qualification and will need to be completed prior to placement.

Students will be notified of their placement details prior to commencing vocational placement. Students are required to organise their own travel to and from these facilities and may be required to undertake placement anywhere within Australia.
Footnote [1] CHCDIS018 – Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach: The unit of competency requires students to perform the activities outlined in the performance criteria of the unit during a period of at least 40 hours of vocational placement within a workplace (for at least one person with a disability in the workplace).

Once the units of competency required in the training package for this qualification have been successfully completed, the student will be issued with CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support and an academic transcript of all completed units within 30 calendar days. Students who successfully complete individual units of competency within the qualification, but not the qualification in its entirety will be eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment. This document contains a record of all completed units and will be available to students by the end of their course.
